What is a GTA MUTA Training Session?

Claflin Consulting provides the gold-standard experience for gynecological, urogenital and prostate exam training. 

With a patient-centered approach, our Gynecological Teaching Associates (GTAs) and Male Urogenital Teaching Associates (MUTAs; sometimes also called GUs, GUTAs or UTAs) demonstrate each component of these exams and then learners immediately practice those skills on that very same instructor, with the GTA or MUTA continuing to provide guidance as well as immediate feedback on the clinical techniques and communication skills.

Learning to do genital exams on actual human beings is stressful for students and faculty alike. Our goal is to make the experience of learning to do these exams as comfortable as possible. We give learners the confidence they need to do these exams in a way that is comfortable for patients. We give learners the communication skills to discuss these parts of the body in an empathetic way with patients, removing stigmatization and awkwardness. We answer questions people are uncomfortable asking, or are afraid to ask. When we reduce the anxiety for the learner we give them confidence, which in turn reduces the anxiety of their future patients.

We are conveniently located at the midpoint between Boston and Philadelphia…centrally located in a region with probably the largest concentration of medical teaching institutions anywhere in the world. We regularly work at many of the best medical schools and teaching hospitals in MA, CT, NY, NJ and PA. We also regularly work throughout the country, traveling to schools in various states outside of the Northeast Corridor.
